Local community members are fighting against planning application 22/ 01654/FLL to protect the neighbourhood and wider community from serious risk of harm and the destruction of our environment.

These proposals will excavate, crush, screen and transport large volumes of slate, releasing vast quantities of dangerous silica dust particulates into our precious atmosphere with a significant risk of deadly silicosis and exacerbation of COPD, Asthma and other respiratory conditions. This is a national and international concern as more and more deaths and illness are attributed to the effects of inhalation of silica dust. A Tayside Consultant in Public Health Medicine has already stated concerns about the significant risk to public health and safety through air and noise pollution associated with these proposals.

The destruction of the hillside over our community will damage the ecological system, including rare and endangered species of wildlife and vegetation.

There will be 90 lorries per day carrying this hazardous material along the boat road, past the hotels and hospitality gardens, through the difficult Main Street junction, across the narrow historical Telford Bridge, past the school and nurseries and houses, out onto the A9.

Sound good? We didn’t think so! So, how can you help?

After almost three years of fighting this and countless delays, there is to be one final phase of consultation coming soon. We need to demonstrate our opposition by a further raft of objections to add to those already lodged (including from our community council) and a successful petition.

We will let you know when the consultation is re-opened and will help you to lodge your objection. We will campaign vigorously both locally and through the media to raise awareness and concerns and will aim to hold a public meeting to explain the dangers we face.

Please support us in any way you can.
