Community Led Housing
Community Led Housing, (previously the Housing Action Group), is a sub-group of the Dunkeld and Birnam District Community Development Trust (DBCDT). We are a volunteer group of local residents who share a commitment to represent the need for ‘Housing For All’ in order to maintain and safe-guard our real and vibrant community in perpetuity. We are partnered by the Communities Housing Trust (CHT) and by Perth and Kinross Council’s Affordable Housing Enabler.
The Community Action Plan (CAP) which resulted from the PH8 survey established the priorities as follows:
-
To provide community homes that people can afford.
-
To investigate the potential for bringing empty homes back into use.
-
To monitor the increase in homes being used for short-term lets and the resulting reduction in the available housing stock.
-
To ensure adequate provision of appropriate housing for the elderly.
Our current main priority is to deliver quality affordable community-led homes, with a mix of housing types and tenures, to enable younger people, families and those working in the area to live locally. A community-led project will be developed in a way that benefits the whole community by establishing long-term, legally protected benefits via retained income from the housing provided.
For updates, see our news.
‘Community-led housing is about local people playing a leading and fundamental role in solving their specific housing problems, creating genuinely long-term affordable homes and strong, resilient communities in ways that are difficult to achieve through mainstream housing alone’.
