Extensive consultation has recognised strong demand and support within our community for affordable housing. In addressing this demand we have recently taken initial steps towards the development of community-led affordable housing. Our work has been informed by the community consultation within the 2025 Local Place Plan and the 2022 Community Action Plan.

Through funding by the Scottish Land Trust and Rural Housing Scotland, we have commissioned consultants, led by Fraser/Livingstone Architects (FLA), to progress an initial feasibility study for community-led homes on land at the southern end of Birnam. In recent years the wider area has has been known as “the carrot field”, although historically it was referred to as “Birnam Park.”

FLA’s work will build on the hard work of all who have taken an interest in this to date. The consultant team is keen to work with the wider community to explore options and discuss ideas to help inform the future delivery of any new low-density homes and other possible community uses. An initial event will be held late April - date to follow.
