Green energy for Dunkeld & Birnam

The Community Green Energy group, operating under the Development Trust, has secured funding to develop a renewable energy and energy efficiency project in Dunkeld and Birnam from the SSE Griffin and Calliachar Community Benefit Fund. A part-time Community Engagement Officer will support the community led efforts.

We hope to have someone in post by autumn but are keen to expand the current Steering Group and to enlist folk who are willing to support the engagement process. This will entail workshops, surveys, stakeholder meetings and targeted outreach to ensure that we come up with clear proposals which reflect the ambitions and needs of this community. The next stage will involve capital funding applications to realise these ambitions. This stage, however, is about being clear about what we want as a community.

The Engagement Officer will lead the process of helping the community determine what sort of Green Energy solutions we wish to pursue (eg local energy generation, domestic insulation, domestic battery installation). However, the exercise will require substantial community support if it is to successfully identify how local people and businesses want to change the way in which they consume and conserve energy. Our end goals include lower household costs, reduced carbon emissions and increased community resilience.
